“All the successful teams I’ve ever seen have three characteristics: They play unselfish, they play together and they play hard.“ Larry Brown
One of Ireland's newest Clubs
Lusk Ravens were established in 2022 by a group of ex-players and coaches who saw the need for a club in the town and who wanted to give something back to the game and perhaps the chance to lace up the boots again. The biggest challenge was the lack of facilities in the town and the club was very lucky Lusk National School came on board to host the club.
Lusk Ravens Basketball Club is the newest club in the town having started in 2022. Lusk is one of the fastest growing towns in Ireland with over 11,000 people and the demand for basketball was clear. Lusk Ravens mission is to grow and strengthen our community by providing basketball pathways that are affordable, accessible and inclusive for all players, coaches and officials.
The Ravens have landed!
After securing facilities thanks to Lusk National School we have quickly established a mens senior team, ladies senior team, an academy and a masters team. Our players are currently training and competing in friendlies and our hope is to enter multiple teams for the 2023 season.
Currently we have a men's senior team, ladies senior team and an academy for 5/6th class students.
Many of our academy kids are students in Lusk National School and our coaches work closely with the school to develop coaching drills and routines that compliment the work the school does with that of the academy.
Sponsoring a local club is not only a great way to give something back , it also promotes a powerfully positive image of your company in addition it generates a lot of goodwill within the community. There are different levels of sponsorship available to fit your budget. If you are interested in coming on board as a Ravens sponsor Email us at luskravens@gmail.com and you might even get a cool shirt to boot.
James Naismith invented basketball
Basketball was played with a soccer ball and peach baskets
Basketball was originally played with a soccer ball and peach baskets, with referees having to retrieve the ball each time a player made a basket. In 1900, the string baskets we know today were introduced to the game and, later, backboards were attached to prevent spectators from blocking shots.
Dribbling wasn't allowed
Possession rules changed in 1913
The game as we know it gives possession of an out-of-bounds ball to the player who last had contact with it, but that wasn’t always the case. Prior to 1913, a referee would pick up and throw an out-of-bounds ball down the court, and the first player to touch it retained possession. The rules eventually changed because of the increase in the number of player injuries.
